I just went down to order a 2008 6.9 Madone. This is a $7900 bike. I am sure Trek wants my money, but damn it I want the bike. I read that they were already in production, but it looks like September before I can even get one.

I think you are better to go for the 6.5 and order a fancy set of wheels (Aelous 6.5s)? The XXX wheels are light, but not aero. nothing looks better on a hot carbon frame than some deep carbon wheels.
I totally agree. Your money is better spend on the 6.5. I did a comparison of features/cost. The 6.9 costs more because of the wheels and handle bar. After you take those into account it is $650 more for no reason other than paint job I think. The 6.5 is a better deal and you still have money left to go buy whatever wheels you fall in love with.
Since you can’t get these things until September or later anyway you may as well wait until Jan or Feb and do a Project One. That way you get the paint job you want and people won’t be able to tell it is a 6.5 anyway.
